There just isn't very much exciting for me to say, y'know? I mean, yes, I know Harry Potter...and Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. And yes, I could tell you whether Harry snores, and what he wore to bed whilst we were in school. And I could tell you stories about what they three of them got up to while we were at Hogwarts. (I could, but I won't.) And yes, I did fight in the final battle. Not like Harry, Ron, or Hermione, of course, but I was there and I held my own. I had to fight; after everything the Death Eaters have done to my family, how could I not? My parents were tortured into insanity by Death Eaters when I was just a baby, and my grandmother--a formidable woman if ever I've seen one--died in a Death Eater attack on Diagon Alley during my seventh year at Hogwarts. I was surprised at how easy it was for me to convince Gran to let me go back to school after my sixth year, actually. I expected her to try to keep me "safe" at home, especially after what happened at the end of the year, when Death Eaters invaded Hogwarts and Dumbledore was killed. But she told me I was needed at school, that I'd proved myself capable of taking care of myself in the Ministry at the end of my fifth year...and in the battle at Hogwarts. So back I went. I was made Gryffindor Prefect, taking Ron's place when he, Harry and Hermione didn't come back. I worked hard, and managed to get an O in Defence, an E in Charms, and, of course, an O in Herbology (the highest score in over a decade, Professor Sprout tells me). And I did whatever I could behind the scenes to help with the defeat of Voldemort. Thanks to my Prefect duties, I spent a lot of time with Hannah Abbott, who'd been made Head Girl. Looking back, that was probably the best part of my seventh year. I'm pretty non-descript when it comes to looks. I don't look horrible, but I'm not one of those blokes who'll have girls falling all over themselves to get to him, either. Loads of people look right past me, underestimate me, but Hannah never did. My one regret, other than not being able to tell Gran how much I appreciated everything she'd done for me, was not telling Hannah how I feel about her. But there was the war, and we left school and I got sent overseas for my job with McGregor's Nursery (the new guy always gets the worst jobs, did you know?), and I haven't seen her since. But maybe, just maybe, since I'm going back home, we'll manage to find each other again. | ||
